What: Spirit of Oregon Award Ceremony/Oregon Council of Teachers of English Conference

Why: I will be accepting the Spirit of Oregon Award for Academy 7 at the awards ceremony, giving an author presentation, and signing books. You may come to learn about teaching literature! And teaching students to create literature!

What: Young Writers Workshop at Powells
Who: Young writers (teens & younger)

Why: Young writers will have the chance to workshop and share their own writing with yours truly (a young adult author) and Sydney Salter (a middle-grade and young adult author) as well as gaining first hand advice about writing dialogue from the author team.

Why: I will be moderating and speaking on a panel with other young adult authors: L.K. Madigan, Patrick Ness, and Becca Fitzpatrick on the topic, "YA Gets Real." Forget about vampires and boy wizards. Hear from four Young Adult authors who tackle serious, real-life subject matters and how they relate to teens.

What: Oregon Writing Festival
Who: Kids from all across the state of Oregon (and sometimes beyond) who love to write!
When: Saturday, May 7, 2011
Where: Portland State University, Portland, OR
Why: This is a fabulous conference for students who love to write, want to learn about writing, and want to meet other students just like them.
I will be the guest author presenting to the 6th-8th grade students attending the Writing Festival. I will also sign books and teach one of the writing workshops.
